Who We Are
A quiet approach to travel during life transitions
Living Between Land and Water
Kuma Adventures was created for people who find themselves in between chapters.
Not lost.
Not broken.
Just quietly ready for something to shift.
We are Mika and Karl. For the past 17 years, we have lived a life that moves between land and water—between the mountains of Lake Tahoe and a sailboat in San Francisco Bay. This way of living began when we moved from the Bay Area to Tahoe, and it has shaped how we understand home, stability, and change.
Living this way has taught us that steadiness does not always come from fixed ground. Sometimes it comes from learning how to stay present while things change around you
Learning to Live With Less
Living on a sailboat teaches you something essential: you do not need much to live well.
Space is limited, so what you keep matters. Over time, we learned that comfort does not come from having more things, but from having enough—and from being intentional about what stays and what goes.
This simplicity is not about deprivation. It is about clarity.
That understanding quietly informs everything we offer at Kuma Adventures.
The Quiet Healing Power of Nature
Nature has been one of our greatest teachers.
There was a time when I lost my baby dog—a loss that left me deeply heartbroken. During that period, I found myself walking into the forest again and again, not to seek answers, but simply to be held by something larger and steadier than my grief.
The trees did not ask questions.
The trails did not rush me.
The forest allowed me to feel what I needed to feel, without judgment.
Little by little, being surrounded by nature became part of the healing process—not because it erased the pain, but because it made space for it.
This experience deepened our belief that time in nature can support us through moments we cannot “fix,” only move through.
A Different Understanding of Adventure
We believe adventure does not have to be dramatic or extreme.
Sometimes, adventure looks like stepping away from daily routines.
Arriving alone.
Reducing noise.
Giving yourself permission to slow down.
Kuma Adventures supports this quieter kind of adventure—one rooted in presence rather than performance, and in allowing nature to do what it does best: offer space.
Holding Space for Solo Travelers in Transition
Our role is not to guide or fix.
It is to hold space.
Kuma Adventures offers a calm, respectful environment for solo travelers—especially those navigating life transitions—to rest, reflect, and regain clarity at their own pace.
We value privacy.
We respect independence.
We trust each person’s inner timing.
A Gentle Invitation
If you feel drawn to step away for a while—
to spend time in nature,
to live with a little less,
and to let yourself heal in your own way—
we would be honored to welcome you.
